Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction restores a natural, symmetrical appearance to the bosom, maintains body proportion, allows clothes to fit better, and most important, boosts self-confidence for women who have lost one or both breasts to mastectomy or who lack breasts due to a congenital or developmental abnormality. Reconstructive surgeons strive to create a new breast and nipple that resemble the woman’s natural breast as closely as possible in shape, size and position.
Breast Reconstruction with Perforator Flap
Tissue flaps are one of the most common forms of breast reconstruction, as they supply additional muscle tissue and skin to camouflage implants and help them look more natural, or recreate the breast mound with no need for implants or other foreign materials. These procedures involve taking skin, fat and/or muscle, usually from the abdomen or back, and placing them in the breast area after a mastectomy. The flap may remain attached to its original blood supply, or can be reattached to another part of the body.
Congenital Breast Surgery
Congenital breast deformities are a common condition that may lead to significant aesthetic and emotional concerns for patients of all ages. These deformities may become apparent at birth, during puberty, or later in life, depending on the type and severity of the deformity. Patients may experience abnormalities with the size, shape, location and number of breasts, as well as nipple deformities. Dr. Trussler offers a wide range of surgical treatment options to correct these deformities and allow patients to enjoy even, natural-looking breasts.
What To Expect During Your Consultation
Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
Although rarely discussed, enlarged male breasts is a common condition.Gynecomastia affects approximately 40 to 60 percent of men. There is often no known cause for gynecomastia, although there has been some correlation with various drugs or medical conditions.
Men who feel self-conscious about their appearance are helped with breast reduction surgery. The procedure removes fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts, and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting in a contoured chest that is flatter and firmer.
Microvascular Breast Reconstruction
Modern surgical techniques make it possible to construct a natural-looking breast using the patient’s own skin and tissue, and therefore eliminating the need for breast implants. Microvascular breast reconstruction increases the size of the treated breast(s) through more natural means, and may involve the use of fat and tissue transfer, skin grafts and skin flaps, depending on each patient’s individual needs. These procedures offer patients smaller incisions, less scarring and the ability to truly shape and sculpt the breast for customized results.
