What Is a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?
A non-surgical rhinoplasty or non-surgical nose job is a relatively simple cosmetic procedure used to refine and smooth the nose. This office-based procedure is usually performed on the radix, dorsum, and tip of the nose to provide an improved profile, though the treatment is individualized to meet the goals of the patient. Most patients desiring a straightforward change to their nose are able to achieve their desired results with just one simple procedure. At Andrew Trussler, MD PLLC in Austin TX, we specialize in non-surgical rhinoplasty with nose fillers or fat injections.
Non-surgical nose jobs can be achieved through several different techniques, with the most common being an injectable gel such as a hyaluronic acid filler (Juvederm® or Restylane®), which can last for up to one year. The best procedure for you depends on your goals of the non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure and any previous treatments. Dr. Trussler will discuss your rhinoplasty goals to help you decide which treatment option is best for you to achieve the natural nasal shape you desire.
Options For Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
The most common non-surgical rhinoplasty options involve an injection of a facial filler to add definition and fill depressions of the nose. Your own body’s fat, or synthetic or biologic implants, may be used as well. Some of the options commonly used by Dr. Trussler for non-surgical rhinoplasty include:
- Hyaluronic Acid filler injections (Dr. Trussler prefers the use of Juvederm®)
- Radiesse® injection for dorsal augmentation
- Fat injections using the patient’s own fat from another area of the body
Each of these different types of non-surgical rhinoplasty offer patients benefits over other techniques, though biologic type augmentation techniques are preferred. You can discuss these options further with Dr. Trussler in order to determine which procedure is best for you.
Crysalix 3 dimensional imaging could be utilized to help guide areas of filler placement and predict the degree of correction.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Considerations
It is important to discuss all options for treatment with Dr. Trussler in order to achieve the safest and most effective results for your non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure. A patient who presents for their first procedure should be conservative with the choice of filler and the amount.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are relatively inexpensive, non-permanent, safe, and easily injected in the office with limited downtime. Utilizing your own bodies tissue requires a donor site from another area in the body, which is invasive and more expensive, though these types of non-surgical nose job treatments may be longer lasting.
Expectations For Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Through injectable nose fillers, patients can achieve a smoother and more refined nose with minimal downtime and few side effects. With realistic expectations and good overall health, most patients are satisfied with the results of this procedure. Of note, volume can be added with the addition of a hyaluronic acid filler layered on top of any previous filler and/or surgical site, and these fillers can be dissolved with the use of a hyaluronidase.
Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Procedure
Non-surgical rhinoplasty procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and can usually be done in the office in less than an hour. Topical anesthesia is commonly used for the injectable procedure, as the majority of fillers have lidocaine in the gel. Fat injections can be performed in the office, but do require a separate donor site.
For office-based injections, the filler is injected in small amounts in the areas agreed upon during the initial consultation. Depending on the patient, the areas injected are the radix, dorsum and nasal tip to provide natural definition and a smooth profile.
Volume is incrementally added to help accurately correct each area and then molded to help smooth the injection sites. The outcome should achieve a volumetric balance to the nose with a natural profile. Proper placement of the filler in each level of the nose along the bone and cartilage is important in order to achieve optimal results. Tape and ice is used immediately after to help decrease swelling.
Results Of Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
The nose may appear to be overfilled and uneven at first, since there may be more swelling in one area versus the others. The final result is usually appreciated at one to two weeks. Depending on the type of material used, patients may require multiple treatments over time to maintain their desired results. Touch-ups can be performed after four weeks with injectable fillers if needed.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Before and After
Recovery from Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
After a non-surgical rhinoplasty, patients may experience mild discomfort and swelling for about one week, although these side effects usually subside on their own and are limited to the use of ice. Most patients can return to work and other normal activities within one to two days after the procedure, although exercise and other strenuous activities should be avoided for a bit longer.

Dr. Tussler was recommended to me by a co-worker to see about getting a revision rhinoplasty. One of the best things about him is that he takes the time to listen to my thoughts and understand the end result I wanted and made feel like part of the team and not just another patient. Long story short, the results exceeded my expectations. My botched nose surgery has finally been corrected and I can go on with my life without worrying about how I look.

I did some research and had consults with 5 highly rated plastic surgeons in Austin including Dr. Trussler. After my consult with him I knew he was the surgeon for me. I got my breast lift and implant done with him in 2016 and I am loving my results. My confidence level has sky rocketed. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Thank you Dr. Trussler and all of your staff.”
