Facial fat grafting is a procedure to add volume and give a youthful appearance to the face.

With a fat transfer, the patient’s cells are harvested from another area of the body. The fat is then purified and injected through small cannulas into the targeted area of the face. In some cases, it can also be combined with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), which can improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and plump the skin.

Discover why patients opt for facial fat grafting in Austin, TX, to rejuvenate their appearance.

#1: Achieve a Fresh Youthful Look

Facial fat grafting is beneficial for addressing a wide range of concerns. One common concern is tissue loss around the cheeks, eyes, and mouth.

Full, round cheeks, prominent, bright eyes, and a smooth appearance often define a youthful appearance. Transferring fat to the area of the face that has lost volume allows you to achieve a fuller, more youthful aesthetic.

It’s also beneficial for addressing sagging skin, reducing the appearance of lines around the corners of the mouth and across the forehead, and more.

#2: Minimal Downtime

Patients also appreciate that facial fat grafting is less invasive than other cosmetic procedures, such as a facelift. Many patients return to work the following day. Side effects such as redness or swelling are minimal and subside a few days following your procedure.

#3: Natural Results

Injectables such as dermal fillers can give similar results, but many patients don’t feel as comfortable knowing they are chemically produced. With facial fat grafting, the procedure utilizes your own cells, allowing for a more natural method of enhancing your appearance.

Furthermore, the results also appear natural and subtle, ideal for patients who are looking to address their concerns without drawing attention to their procedure.

woman are happy with perfect clean healthy skin and beautiful long brown hairYou’ve taken your time, done your research, and considered all of your treatment options to get a younger-looking face. Maybe you’ve even tried a few non-surgical procedures but want something more in terms of rejuvenation. Once you decide to have a facelift, your sights can shift to the issue of recovery and how to maximize the improvements achieved through surgery.

Here, we discuss some skin care tips that can expedite healing and help you maintain a more youthful appearance.

  • Follow post-op instructions. There is no other tip that will trump this one for your immediate healing. Your surgeon gives you post-operative instructions that include activity restrictions, medication usage, and wound care. Every point in our post-operative care guidelines is important to your healing, so review your document before surgery and contact our office if you have any questions. It’s also helpful to review your instructions with the person or people who will look after you at home during your first days of recovery.
  • Skin care. It is important to cleanse and moisturize the facial skin after surgery. Doing so can help reduce the risk of infection caused by bacteria around incisions. Because the face will likely be sore and tender, it is necessary to use a very soft cloth and mild antibacterial cleanser, followed by a soothing moisturizer.
  • Swelling and bruising. Side effects after a facelift tend to get worse before they get better. It helps to expect this so it does not feel completely alarming. To minimize swelling and bruising, sleep with your head elevated on multiple pillows. You can also apply cold compresses to the face to ease discomfort and reduce swelling.
  • Sun protection. This could be considered skin care but it deserves its own mention. Sunlight carries ultraviolet light into the atmosphere. UVB rays can cause tissue damage and increase the risk of skin cancer. So can UVA rays, which permeate through a cloud layer. While incisions are still healing, if you must go outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat. Once your doctor approves it, apply SPF 30 sunscreen all over the face, including the incisions.
  • Hydrate. The skin relies largely on water to rebuild. Water consumption is necessary after surgery, as well, because it helps the body flush out toxins and the remnants of anesthesia. Flushing toxins is beneficial for wound healing and it can also help prevent severe constipation.
  • Scar prevention. There is no way to prevent post-surgical scarring. The body naturally develops scar tissue as a response to a cut, scrape, or other injuries. Knowing that scarring is inevitable, turn your attention to optimal wound healing. Cleaning the incisions with water and a gentle cleanser is one way to promote optimal tissue healing. You may also be instructed to apply an antibiotic ointment for some time. Once the incisions have healed, you may begin a scar treatment program using special oils, creams, or silicone sheets.

Having a facelift can be incredibly rewarding. We see our patients through their facelift process with friendly, professional care. To learn more, contact our Austin office at  (512) 450-1077 for your appointment with Dr. Trussler.

Facelift surgery accomplishes a lot for those who are ready to get serious about the signs of aging. This procedure has been popular for many years, though we’re seeing a few significant changes in how people approach their facial rejuvenation. First, we are performing facelift surgery on younger patients these days. Studies have found that a person who has a facelift in their forties or fifties tends to enjoy longer-lasting results. This isn’t because they have surgery sooner but because, when they have surgery, they also still have relatively good skin elasticity. The firmness and stretchiness of the skin support long-term rejuvenation. Another trend we’re seeing is to combine other treatments with a facelift. Here, we discuss a few, and why they can be advantageous to your facelift outcome.

Dermal Fillers

After your facelift, your jowls may be gone, and those stubborn nasolabial folds, too. So, why would you want dermal fillers? Aren’t these products supposed to be an alternative to a facelift? No! They are a great complement! A facelift repositions deeper layers of tissue to recreate a more angular, youthful jawline and lower face. Dermal fillers can enhance what has been achieved by boosting the volume of your cheeks, temples, or lips. All of these areas can deflate or become slightly hollow with age. With dermal fillers, your facelift can look better for longer.

HALO Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Aging isn’t all about the lines and wrinkles and sagging jawline. It is also about the sun damage that can accumulate over the years. Issues like fine lines, spots, rough skin, and enlarged pores all contribute to looking older. A facelift cannot eliminate these concerns, but lasers do a great job of it. Most people achieve outstanding improvements with 1 or 2 HALO treatments, enjoying a revival of radiance and softness that can last years.

Kybella

A softening, sagging jawline is only one of several ways in which facial deflation and descent affects appearance. Submental fullness is also a common complaint. The accumulation of fatty tissue beneath the chin has relatively little to do with overall weight. It has a lot to do with the changes in the skin and underlying tissue. Kybella injections target fat cells for full and permanent destruction. This treatment, combined with your facelift, can restructure the frame of your face to look slimmer, firmer, and younger.

Your Austin, TX plastic surgeon can develop a unique treatment plan to address the various ways in which your face has changed due to aging. Call (512) 450-1077 today to schedule your consultation for facial rejuvenation.
